Strengthening Disaster-Resilient Village of Criwik, Semen Gresik Collaborates with BPBD Rembang

Rembang, May 19, 2023 PT Semen Gresik collaborated with Rembang Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD Rembang) and the local government of Criwik village to organize an event for the second stage of Optimalisasi Desa Tangguh Bencana (optimization of the disaster-resilient village) in Criwik, Pancur district, Rembang regency, Central Java (17/5). The event covered the promotion and simulation of disaster-resilient programs and the distribution of emergency kits.

In attendance were representatives of PT Semen Gresik’s management, the acting BPBD Rembang head, members of the district-level coordinating forum (Forkopimcam) of Pancur, the village-level government of Criwik, village council, key individuals, and religious leaders of Criwik’s community.

PT Semen Gresik’s Senior Manager of Communication & CSR, Dharma Sunyata, explained that the event was the company’s commitment to supporting BPBD in achieving the mission of Ketangguhan Bangsa dalam Menghadapi Bencana (the nation’s resilience in disaster).

“The second stage of Optimalisasi Desa Tangguh Bencana in Criwik is expected to improve the resilience of the community so that they will be able to organize their resources to reduce vulnerability and risks during disasters,” he stated.

Dharma stated that the synergy between PT Semen Gresik and BPBD Rembang had been well-developed thus far. “In the distribution of disaster-related aid either in the form of education or emergency kits in Rembang regency, we have always coordinated and cooperated closely with BPBD Rembang, so that the aid would reach the right target, i.e. the people who need it,” he stated in his press release (19/5).

This event for disaster management, he added, was a part of the company’s Pilar Sosial Program Tanggung Jawab Sosial dan Lingkungan (TJSL). Pilar Sosial was meant to drive the fulfillment of human rights in a fair and equal way so that the welfare of the whole population could be improved.

Meanwhile, the head of BPBD Rembang, Sri Jarwati, welcomed PT Semen Gresik’s assistance and support during the process of Optimalisasi Desa Tangguh Bencana.

She hoped that the collaboration of BPBD Rembang and PT Semen Gresik would continue to function. “BPBD Rembang would not be able to run without the help of business actors in educating communities about disaster management,” she explained.

In the current program, she added, BPBD and PT Semen Gresik provided educational assistance and practices of resilience during disasters. “We hope that later, the community can independently provide early emergency responses before any emergency team may be able to respond to a disaster or an emergency situation in their village,” she ended.
